Karlstad University is pleased to announce the doctoral defence of Samuel Shry, entitled “Anadromy in Fragmented Rivers: Downstream Passage Challenges for Migrating Salmonids.”

The defence will take place on 20 February 2026 at 10:00, in Sjöströmsalen (Room 1B309) at Karlstad University.
In his doctoral research, Samuel Shry investigates how river fragmentation affects downstream migration of anadromous salmonids. With a particular focus on migration barriers and passage challenges, the thesis contributes important insights into fish ecology, river management, and conservation strategies in regulated river systems.
The appointed opponent is Senior Research Scientist Line Sundt-Hansen from the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA), Norway.
The defence is open to the public, and colleagues, students, and interested members of the wider research community are warmly welcome to attend.
